Connecting sources

YouGov Connections is a feature which allows members to earn rewards for securely sharing their online data.

Participation in YouGov Connections is possible via invitation only.

1. Email invitation

Once you receive your invitation to join YouGov Connections, click on the link in the email invitation and you will be guided towards the next step – installing the browser extension.

2. Browser extension

The email invitation link will guide you to download the YouGov Safe extension to your browser from the Chrome Store.

Please note, you must use the Chrome Browser for the Safe extension to work. If you use Firefox or Safari, you may connect data that doesn’t use the Safe extension.

3. Install the extension

Next, you will need to install the YouGov Safe extension to your Chrome browser.

4. Log in

Login to the Safe Extension with your YouGov account.

5. Select the data source(s) you’d like to add

Once you’ve logged into your YouGov account, you can choose which data sources you’d like to connect. Please note: Connecting data will open a new tab for the data you’ve chosen.

6. Review details and consent for YouGov to collect and store your data

For each data source selected, you’ll be presented with detailed information that includes what data is collected, example data, and how we collect and store that data. These data source consents allow YouGov to collect and store your data to offer you opportunities and projects that will reward you with points.

7. Review your first paid project (by YouGov)

Earn points by joining insights projects. Read more about paid projects.

8. Login to a data source if necessary

You might be asked to login to the data source if you are not already logged in. The data adding process will automatically resume once you are logged in but depending on the data source, you may be asked an additional step. For example, for Netflix you need to select your profile if on a joint account or, for YouTube, it might ask if you are on the correct account (if you have multiple).

9. Done!

All set up! You can now receive points for your data. If companies are interested in using your data, you will receive project invites as explained in the next section.

Joining projects

Once you have added data to your accounts you will receive invites for projects. You can choose if you want to join or not. If you join you will receive points.

1. Get invited to projects

Projects will ask your permission to let different companies use your data for their research projects.

2. Review project details and points

These projects will specify information like what data you are sharing, how it will be used, and the number of points you will be rewarded.

YouGov also has an initial set of its own projects you can join and be rewarded for.

3. Earn points by opting into data projects

When you choose to join a project, you will be rewarded with the points specified on the project invitation. These points will show in your YouGov account for you to turn into cash or gift cards.

Manage your data

You can delete your data and/or revoke your consent at any time.

1. Go to the Preferences tab

On the bottom of the Connections page, you can click “Preferences” to remove/revoke consent for any of the data sources you have added or projects you have joined.

2. Select a data source or project

For sources click "delete data" to delete your data.

For projects click "Revoke consent" to no longer allow this project to use your data.

3. Confirm

Confirm that you understand you cannot undo this action by checking the checkbox, then click "confirm".

Note: If you have connected one or more bank accounts to YouGov Finance in the past, and would now like to delete this data, please raise a ticket with the YouGov support team here.
